Production Process & Technology

> Raw Material Preparation

High-quality polymer materials such as PP, PE, or PET are selected. These materials offer excellent chemical stability, weather resistance, and mechanical strength, ensuring long-term outdoor performance of the weed control fabric.

> Batching & Mixing

Various raw materials are weighed according to the specified formulation requirements. The weighed materials are then fed into a mixer to achieve a fully uniform blend, ensuring consistent product quality.

Feeding & Heating Extrusion

The mixed material is loaded into the extruder hopper via a feeder. The extruder is heated to the required temperature as per the process parameters, melting the material and extruding it into film sheets.

Cooling

The extruded film sheets are immediately cooled using water or other methods to rapidly set their shape, facilitating subsequent processing.

Slitting

The cooled film sheets are cut into strips of specified width, known as "green yarn," preparing them for the stretching process.

> Stretching (Drawing)

The green yarn is passed through a heated oven where it is stretched under high temperature and tension. This orients the molecular chains, transforming the yarn into flat tapes of the required width and thickness, thereby enhancing their strength and toughness.

> Heat Setting

| The flat tapes are further heated in a setting oven to stabilize their molecular structure and dimensions, improving their physical properties and dimensional stability.

> Winding

The heat-set flat tapes are wound into spools of a defined shape, which are then bagged and stored for easy handling and inventory.

Weaving

The flat tapes are woven on looms into fabric according to technical specifications. Different weaving patterns and densities can be applied to meet varied application needs.

Final Winding & Inspection

The woven fabric is wound onto rolls of specified length using a winding machine. Defective sections are removed during this stage to guarantee consistent product quality and specifications.

Sealing & Labeling

The beginning and ends of each fabric roll are securely sealed with tape to prevent unraveling during use. A label is affixed to a fixed position on each roll, indicating product specifications, type, production date, and other relevant information.

Cutting & Packing

Defective products identified during final winding are sorted out. Qualified fabric is folded into sheets of predetermined dimensions and bagged. The folded sheets, along with their labels, are placed into plastic bags. Finally, the rolls and bagged sheets are packed into designated cartons according to specified quantities, sealed, and stored in the warehouse or prepared for shipment.

PP/PE vs. PET Weed Control Fabrics

> Material Properties

PET Weed Control Fabric: PET material offers higher strength and toughness, resulting in a more durable and robust fabric with superior tensile and tear resistance, making it less prone to damage.

PP/PE Weed Control Fabric: PP/PE materials are relatively softer and slightly lower in strength compared to PET. Their tensile and tear resistance is generally inferior, which may lead to easier tearing or rupture.

Durability

PET Weed Control Fabric: Excellent weather resistance, with strong tolerance to UV rays, high temperatures, humidity, and other environmental factors. It resists aging, fading, and embrittlement effectively, offering a longer service life—typically over 5 years.

PP/PE Weed Control Fabric: More susceptible to UV degradation during long-term outdoor use, leading to aging and brittleness. Its service life is relatively shorter, usually ranging from 1 to 3 years.

Weed Control Effectiveness

PET Weed Control Fabric: Tightly woven structure provides better sunlight blocking, significantly inhibiting weed growth and reducing weeding costs.

PP/PE Weed Control Fabric: Also offers good weed control, but due to differences in material and weaving techniques, its sunlight blocking and weed suppression capabilities are slightly weaker than PET fabric.

Breathability & Water Permeability

PET Weed Control Fabric: Offers good breathability and water permeability, ensuring proper soil gas exchange and moisture infiltration. This helps maintain a stable soil ecosystem and supports healthy root growth.

PP/PE Weed Control Fabric: Relatively poorer in breathability and water permeability, which may affect soil aeration and water penetration, potentially hindering root respiration and water absorption.

Environmental Friendliness

PET Weed Control Fabric: PET material is recyclable, more environmentally friendly, and aligns with sustainability requirements.

PP/PE Weed Control Fabric: PP/PE materials are also recyclable, but their recycling process is somewhat more challenging and offers lower economic value compared to PET.

Additives

PET Weed Control Fabric: Color masterbatch can be added to change fabric color with minimal impact on product quality.

PP/PE Weed Control Fabric: Due to lower tolerance to UV, heat, and moisture, UV-resistant additives must be incorporated during production. For a 1-year service life, UV additive dosage typically ranges from 1.5% to 3%. Longer service life requires higher additive proportions. Current market prices for UV additives range from ¥80,000 to ¥250,000 per ton.
